Hills reduces emissions by up to 90% with move to HVO fuel
We're pleased to announce that our Bristol fleet will be powered by HVO fuel, in a trial that, if successful, will be rolled out across our other transport depots.
HVO, or Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil, is derived from 100% renewable raw materials and sustainable waste from verified vegetable fats and oils.
By using HVO fuel, supplied by Certas Energy, Hills Waste will help reduce Carbon (CO2) emissions by up to 90% compared to traditional diesel, and this is on top of the benefits already realised through using Euro 6 compliant vehicles. This is a large step towards a more sustainable future at Hills Waste Solutions. With environmental responsibilities a key consideration, every reduction in emissions counts, and Hills Waste Solutions is keen to be at the forefront of this change.

But the benefits don't stop there. HVO fuel is also 100% biodegradable, meaning it leaves a less harmful footprint on our planet. Operationally, the transition to HVO fuel couldn't be smoother. Our trucks can run on a blend of diesel and HVO, or switch to 100% HVO without any impact to performance. In addition, there are no conversion costs for our trucks or to the fuel storage areas, making the switch both environmentally and financially attractive.

Footnote: Certas Energy is the largest distributors of fuel and lubricants in the UK, who are members of the Renewable Fuels Assurance Scheme (RFAS). Membership of RFAS means that Certas Energy undergo continuous compliance monitoring, including an annual audit which ensures that HVO is derived from 100% renewable raw materials and sustainable waste, and that GHG emissions intensity claims are verified accordingly.
